About Vision Crusaders

In November of 2010, Klaus Bartosch was overweight, limping due to arthritis in his right knee and generally feeling poorly. At the encouragement of his wife, Edith, he joined West Burleigh Vision Personal Training to commence a journey of change. Damian Glynn, the owner of this gym, became his trainer.

In March 2011, after loosing over 10kg, rebuilding the muscle in his leg. Klaus felt like he had achieved what he had started. Damian though knew better. He taunted Klaus with suggestions of new goals but Klaus was not motivated by fitness goals. In passing, as a joke, Damian suggested that Klaus consider the Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer in August. Damian didn’t know much more but Klaus went home that day after training to return to training the next morning.

Damian was not to know that he had hit a nerve. Klaus was a cancer survivor having had his first serious melanoma in 2000 and a second in 2003. That night he had signed up. He arrived at the gym the next day and let Damian know he had signed. Riding on his own was never going to be enough. He wanted to build a team and Damian offered his help encouraging other Vision Personal Training clients to take interest.

This is how it all began.

Then on August 20, 2011, 5am, we all started to gather at the starting line in Brisbane. Excited and feeling invincible. Klaus was invited to address all riders at the opening ceremony with his own story. It was an honor he will never forget.

Follow the link to the page that talks about this first ride for more details. Many of the photo’s on this web site are from that original journey. A journey that brought together a group of people who became good friends as a result.

Vision Crusaders was born. We intend to make an impact. An epic impact to help rid the world of this terrible disease and will take on other challenges for similar causes.
